Cridling Stubbs Village Hall was a Methodist Chapel built in 1876. It was sold to residents of Cridling Stubbs in 1959 and became a registered charity in 1963. A management committee made up of trustees of the charity administer the day-to-day running of the hall and its finances.
The hall is used on a regular basis for Cridling Stubbs Parish Council meetings, Coffee Mornings whenever the mobile library visits the village, youth activities, Knit & Natter group, Community First Responder meetings, Christmas events and Cridling Stubbs Produce Show. It can also be hired for private functions such as children's parties, funeral teas or discos. Selby District Council use it as a polling station for both District and County Elections and it is the designated Community Rest Centre should there be need for residents to evacuate their homes in an emergency.
During the summer of 2010 the interior is undergoing a "facelift" courtesy of an intrepid group of volunteers from across the Pennines as well as from the village. By fair means or foul, a group of builders were persuaded to use their energy, skills and muscle to repaint the walls in their leisure time! What a coup! Many many thanks to these guys for their generosity and good nature and to Focus DIY in Pontefract for donating much of the paint.
As well as the redecoration which is taking place, plans are afoot to totally refurbish and renovate the hall. A quote for £9000 has been received to replace the windows and the village hall management committee is working hard to obtain funding in order for this (and other) work to be carried out. Anyone who would like to help in the village hall, cleaning, gardening, repairs etc please contact Lynda Walker on 01977 671517.
