8 Arriva Buses

NYCC propose to re-schedule the 414 service and wish to cut evening services Monday to Saturday and to cease with any service at all on a Sunday.

Mr Chisham commented that he would use the bus more often but unfortunately the service is totally unreliable. He also pointed out that the government are supposed to be trying to get the public to use public transport but how can they if there is no service or unreliable service.

It was also mentioned that the villagers pay council tax to SDC and get very little in return.

The reply to the letter from NYCC should contain the following:-

It was suggested that maybe the villages could have a shuttle bus to Knottingley enabling the villagers to at least get somewhere that they could catch a connecting scheduled bus, but this would have to be run by a well known and reputable company.

Concern was shown as to the proposed no service at all on a Sunday and no evening service. The parish council feel that if only one person uses the service, particularly as the village is in a rural area it can mean the difference to being able to go out shopping etc. or not being able to go out at all.

It was also noted that as Cridling Stubbs has no shop many people rely on a bus service to get to the nearest town.

A letter is to be sent to Mr John Grogan with the same content as the one to NYCC, asking for his support in keeping the 414 service running.

Mrs Lynda Walker has volunteered to take a letter to all of the houses in the village and to try and get support for this problem from everyone in the village.

Mr B Crossdale showed a letter he had received from Arriva regarding the 414 service on the 2 December 2005 saying that the service had left Pontefract bus station on time with two passengers but somewhere on its journey it was lost and they don't know where it went but they were looking into this.

It was also suggested that the parish council try and set up a meeting between ourselves, Arriva and NYCC in the village hall and to try and get some feedback as to what the needs of the villagers is.

9 Any Other Business

A letter was read out by Mr B Crossdale from G Ivey apologising for not attending the parish council meeting. She would like to try and attend a meeting at every parish council at least every 4 months. The parish council will continue to invite her each month.

A letter was sent from the parish council to the Cridling Stubbs Community Fund asking for funds for the production of the newsletter and the hiring of the village hall.

Mrs J Adams asked for an update on the playground and was told that Mr J Grogan is going to help with this and is going to contact the Chief Executive of NYCC to try and speed this up.

Mrs J Adams had tried to get through to UK Coal on Friday 6 January 2006 regarding the state of the road but she couldn't get through at all.

Mrs M Anderson spoke to someone on Tuesday 10 January 2006 and was told that the lorry wash was out of order.

The state of the road is to put on the next agenda.

Mrs M Williams asked for an update on the field behind Cobcroft Lane and Mrs J Adams said that motor bikes were being ridden in this field.

Mr S Longley said that the fence needs to be put back, he also suggested that the parish council get a price for hedge planting and for the parish council to get in touch with Mr Downham about getting a grant for this.
